HELP US PLAN A NEW CHILDREN’S PLAY SPACE FOR BALLARD COMMONS PARK!

The Ballard Alliance is working with Ballard community stakeholders to create a new play area in the Ballard Commons Park.* Our vision is to provide a new opportunity for year-round, active play for young children and their families. By creating new play space, we anticipate creating a refreshed park environment that increased the use and enjoyment of this beautiful urban park.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Ballard Commons Park is an urban park nestled in the heart of the dense HUB Urban Village of Ballard. Constructed in 2005, the Park provides a unique opportunity for the creation of a new play area in an existing park.

While Ballard Commons Park is located in an ideal location and surrounded by significant new residential development, it is underutilized. One of the ways the Ballard Alliance is working to attract more people into the park is to propose a play area in the park.

To gain community input and ideas for this idea, the Ballard Alliance secured grant funding from the Seattle Office of Economic Development to begin a community engagement process and hire a landscape architecture firm – The West Studio – to assist in community outreach and conceptual design development. Additionally, a volunteer steering committee comprised of local Ballard residents and business owners has been assembled to actively participate and promote the community outreach efforts. The community outreach process will take place in late October 2017 – December 2017.

The West Studio will consolidate the community outreach efforts and provide conceptual design recommendations through the creation of a community outreach report. This document will help to inform future design development process with Seattle Parks and Recreation and ultimately the realization of a new play area at Ballard Commons Park.

*This project is in the initial public outreach stage and is not yet funded for construction.
