SUMMARY:Drypoint Intaglio Printmaking Using Tetra Pak
DESCRIPTION:Even beginners can learn to create “etching-like” prints quickly and easily using tools and materials you already have at home! Explore drypoint intaglio printmaking using recycled Tetra Pak cartons as an affordable and eco-friendly plate material. We’ll practice cross-hatching and incising textures using drypoint tools\, corkscrews\, dental tools\, and exacto knives. Instead of etching ink\, we’ll use water soluble “Stabilo Woody” colored pencils. After “inking\,” prepare your plate using Q-tips to increase contrast\, and pull prints using rolling pins or hand-burnishing. Emphasis on sustainable practice\, mark-making\, and experimental approaches to tone\, pattern\, and layering. \nAll supplies are provided\, and step-by-step guidance will ensure everyone leaves with three finished plates in this two hour class. We’ll have enough 300gsm 100% cotton paper for each student to make two prints from each plate in class\, and you’ll leave knowing how to make more prints at home. Images for tracing will be provided\, but feel free to bring your own! Plates will be 2×3 inches and 4×5 inches. Print your images in reverse\, especially words\, as our prints will be the reverse from what we scratch into the plate.

DESCRIPTION:Discover the intuitive and joyful art of botanical monoprinting in this hands-on workshop. Using a flexible gelli plate\, you will learn how to capture the delicate textures and intricate details of leaves\, ferns\, and grasses. This process allows you to create unique art prints without the need for a traditional printing press. Using a brayer to apply smooth\, even layers of acrylic paint to the gelli plate\, we’ll press our botanical items into the plate\, transferring textures and patterns onto the paper. Play with color theory\, translucency\, and layers. \nLeaves and materials will be provided\, but please feel free to bring your own botanical textures. Items will likely be destroyed in the process of printing\, and need to be able to lie flat between two pieces of paper. Other items\, like pine cones\, will create a very neat texture that looks nothing like a pinecone – but very fun all the same!

Each student will select from an arrangement of pre-cut and ground droplets of glass. All materials are included.  \nAt the beginning of class\, we will cover best safety practices working with stained glass\, and briefly cover the tools and materials you will be using before diving in.
