Inspired by the movie, this class teaches you how to turn simple reeds into a true masterpiece of structural integrity and soulful charm. Technically we’ll be making baskets using the core of the rattan palm plant, a tropical vine that grows 200 to 600 feet across the jungle floor. Perfect for a new husband basket.

We’ll begin with lashing our spokes, which create the ribs or framework for our vessels, and then use weaver reeds to make patterns. We’ll bend the forms to our will, and then finish off by locking our creations together with tight, enduring knots that last through the changing seasons. Leave with a stunning basket that will get the whole village talking.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before class begins. Since occasionally our dyed reeds can stain, wear clothes that you wouldn’t mind if they got a little damp or splattered.
